Really need testers!

I really need some beta testers so I can finally get this bot out of the beta stage. I need testers that can tell me bugs, crashes and small suggestions. If you want to beta test my bot (ONLY between now and my next release) please e-mail me :-)

Ooops!!! I did it again.... I... :)

Yeah thats right :( I forgot to change the MOTD welcome message to say version 0.5 again hehe. Also I spent lots of time on this to try and fix bugs and I'm hapy with the results to make yet another release. There are many changes! You didn't miss much in v.0.5 since i released it at midnight or something and it was just full of transformation bugs! Get this version for real fun!

- Bots no longer think that they are still in transformations when they are killed in one
- Bots no longer shoot big mommas if they are a headcrab and viceversa
- Bots no longer fail to respawn if they are close to a transformation
- Distances fixed whilst in transformations. I.e. Bots thought they were too far from waypoints and enemies whilst inside transformations
- Bug fixed where bots might try to shoot their own transformation
- Added a delay time for bots to avoid things, will also smooth out movements
- Fixed bug where bots would reload and killing themselve when getting an egon weapon.

It's a miracle!!!!

Thanks to MSVC's debugger again I worked out how to get the bots to use transformations efficiently, run around and shoot enemies too!!!! I also fixed the waypoint loop-the-loop bug. I also fixed much more tiny bugs such as fire delay problems and bots not shooting at all at points.

Some bugs sorted

Thanks to MSVC's debugger I sorted some big bugs! :D So I fixed them and released this new version 0.46

- better weapon support for Half-life deathmatch
- bug: Bug with bots shooting at co-ordinates 0,0,0
- bug: bots never shot when holding tripmine, to fix this bots only use tripmines when they do not have an enemy
- fixed: bots shoot monster_barnacle monsters
- fixed: better tripmine placing
- fixed: better monster shooting again!
- fixed: bot is slightly more stable now since I fixed some places where it might crash
- known bug: still keep getting S_Findname errors sometimes

The known bug was in previous versions too. I think either RCB v 1.9 or the latest HL patch causes it now :(

New Version

Some new stuff for ya's! Made some new commands and the bots use tripmines a lot more now. I like playing with the bot in single player maps with monsters, neat stuff :-) !

- bots use tripmines more frequently (and on walls at least!)
- bots dont shoot tripmnes anymore due to the fact they just blow their own tripmines up
- bots will 'try' to avoid tripmine beams
- new command - use_tripmines, set to 1 for bots to use tripmines, 0 to not. Default is true.
- new command - use_satchels, set to 1 for bots to use satchels, 0 to not. Default is true.
- new command - tripmine_percent (usage: tripmine_percent <percent>) Used to let the bots only use tripmines less frequently. default is 100 percent.

More Progress since im bored

Lots more progress now!!!! Three releases in a day (just about!!!)... Version 0.44 build 2. Im not very proffesional with this hehe but I like people to play with the best bot I've got!

RCBot Version 0.44

Lots of progress now!!!! Another release in a day... Version 0.44. I noticed a few things, bugs, ways to improve. And I think this versions quite cool now :) so I stuck it up here!!!

- New waypoints for boot_camp and c1a2
- Fixed a bug where some monsters to shoot were skipped by the bot.
- New variable can tell bots whether or not to shoot scientists and barneys (botdontshootsci 1)
- Duck Jumping Improved.
- Bots stay closer to crouch waypoints, for example, in vents etc.
- Bots look up when "fart" projecting at the special waypoints!

RCB Version 1.9 ???

NinjaX9 has told me that rocket crowbar version 1.9 should be ready within the week. So that will also mean I'll need to make my bot fully compatible for it too.... After making the bot compatible with v. 1.9 I will probably start the bot again from scratch and make it much better, thanks to working with counter-strike, i've learned to do a lot more stuff with the bots...

Hardly any progress with RCB

I've hardly been doing much with rocket crowbar recently. Since I can't get these transformations working at all. There was a bug though in the bot which made half-life crash if you ran it with any other mod. At the moment it will still supports RCB, HL deathmatch fully. (It will run with FLF, TFC etc, but there are much better bots for that!)

I've been doing a bit with Counter-Strike to do a bot for it, basically to see if I CAN :) They do quite well, but I don't see any point "releasing it" either since there are much better bots for CS.

If you know of any other "small" mods out there, like Rocket Crowbar, I could try and get my bot to work with it! When I mean small, I mean a small mod to download, e.g. less than 15 meg.... cos of my 56k modem! :-(

Finally

I got the FTP Space so I can put the bot in 3ddownloads. I've also got a mirror to my ntl site (UK) If the 3ddownloads link doesn't work. I've compiled a new version of the bot for ya.

version 0.42b

- new: Bots will goto "Goal points" and then proceed to "2nd Goal Points"
- new: Bots will choose a goal when they spawn, either they wil lgoto a goal point, or transformation or none.
- new: Bots stay a good distance away from enemies, especially monsters (distances etc can be configured)
- new: Bots will crouch more often, especially bots with a higher skill.
- new: Bots will attempt to avoid more incoming missiles etc.
- fixed: Changed the bot combat fires delay significantly, the bots now shoot more often.
- fixed: Some possible crashes fixed
- fixed: bots looked for the wrong waypoints when searching for health if they were low on energy
- Tweaked the gauss teleport code for the bots, I dunno if it is better or worse but they shouldn't keep trying to use primary fire if they haven't deployed a teleport position!
- Some more weapons tweaked, bots shpould use hornet gun from longer distances and MP5 from a smaller distance.

I've added much more waypoints and LEC files to go with em!!!

Version 0.4 BETA

Okay since this transformation stuff will take a while to do and sort the bugs out, I've compiled which would probably be the version before I get the bots to use transformations properly. Here is a list of changes.

Weapon priorities tweaked to the poll rankings.
Bots shoot barneymines and scientist mines within a range.
Bots shoot Monsters and transfromations better again, they actually didn't shoot them better in last relase, fixed it now!
Bots know if they can use shotgun secondary fire or egon secondary fire.
when it saw the enemy and will go there hopefully. So This will only work if there are waypoints in the map!
Bots know if they cant use teleport or egon tractor beam on certain entities.
Bots dont shoot their own suck_mines or barney or scientist bombs.
Bots know how to use telporter better.
Bots should reload if out of ammo.
Bots will walk closer to enemies.
Bots should search for health when low.
Bots will not have good accuracy if its enemy is moving fast!
Bots will attempt to avoid rockets, falling apaches, crowbar rockets, scientist and barney mines, grenades, flying deathballs etc!!!

*Subject to Beta Version - Bots will use transformations and stand STILL and continously SHOOT, this is a bug.
If you dont want bots to use transformations then dont put any transformation waypoints in!

Some more goodies...

Here are some more things that are ready to be added...

  • Bots dont shoot their own suck_mines or barney or scientist bombs.
  • Bots know how to use telporter better.
  • Bots should reload if out of ammo.
  • Bots will walk closer to enemies.

Today quite a lot of work has been done, no release yet though :-( Heres a list of some things I've added or hoping to do for the next release.

  • Bots shoot barneymines and scientist mines within a range.

  • If a bots enemy runs away it will remember the last WAYPOINT the enemy was near when it saw the enemy and will go there hopefully.
  • Bots know if they can use teleport or egon tractor beam on certain entities.
  • Beta Bots will use transformations properly I HOPE, if they don't by next release and you dont want bots to use transformations then dont put any transformation waypoints in!

Screenies

Well I took a few screenies with a bot inside a transformation, not great since I was running it in D3D and a small resolution in a window. I've shown the scoreboard too to show it was a bot that's using it since bots have 5 ping! ;-) also shows the big bug im working on, they always just keep shooting when they enter a transformation, been working on that for ages, still don't know how to fix it :-(

Remember there is a forum :-) Tell me about bugs or any additions you want, so I know what to do next!

Also, the poll about the weapons isn't useless, because once there is enough votes, I'll sort the weapon priorities to suit the weapons that got the most votes!!! And I'll see how that goes.

Back to work on the transforming... (Gotta clan praccy today for like 2 hours, boo!)

Update...

Since I don't know what kind of small things I can add to the bot at the mo, I've decided to start work on getting the bots to use transformations. At the moment I've coded their combat (pretty simple, they just randomly chose the correct attack)

For example: Apaches will shoot their rockets 20% of the time (compared to the normal gun 80%!) and another example, Panth's will use the jump pounce if they are far away from the enemy. A cool thing I've got ready for any bot that uses the turret transformation, It will stop shooting once it reaches less than a certain amount of bullets and recharge for around ten seconds before shooting again.

The main thing I gotta fix is to get the bots to actually become atransformation, I've done it but it's not great, I see them walk into transformations, press use, and nothing happens. This is because the bots aren't looking at the transformation properly. To make this easier I'll add transformation waypoints to tell the bots where the transformations are and what direction to look to use them.

I'll work on it in the morning cos I'm tired now !!!

Version 0.36

Well I got some stuff ready and here's another version of the bot.

  • Some waypoints updated.
  • Navigation tweaked.
  • Bug fixed where the waypoint selected by the bot didnt exist...
  • Tripmine code implemented, havent seen a bot use one yet..!!! Will perfect in a later release.
  • Shotgun priority is less since they still dont know if it can be used on certain maps (secondary fire)
  • Bots shoot small monsters like headcrabs, snarks and snarkcams, tripmines etc better.

Bugs...
Noticed a bug bug with the navigation which made the bots head to waypoints that didn't exist and walk all over the place. Also when playing c2a5e it crashed a few times so I had to go back to backups. I might make another version with the navigation stuff fixed because it works a lot better and should use less CPU too :-)

Oops, I actually forgot to update the download page andthe latest bot! So while I found out I added some more things to the bot ( Still version 0.35 )

  • Lambda_bunker waypoint made.
  • Bug fixed where Bots tried to shoot bots that have been kicked from the server!!!
  • Bots attempt to use the egon/gluon energy charge that bounces off walls!
Rocket Crowbot Version 0.35
  • New waypoints for c2a2h.
  • Updated datacore waypoint file.
  • Smarter navigation.
  • Bots try not to go back as much.
  • Bots dont try to goto a waypoint they can't see.
  • Bots shoot monsters a lot better. (thanks Spyro!).
  • Bots crouch better if something is underneath them (i.e. an impailer arrow stuck underneath them).

Version 0.31

There were just a few bugs in version 0.30, first the jump waypoints didn't work, doh! I fixed them for this release and another tiny thing.

Version 0.31

  • More waypoints files made!
  • Normal and duck-jump waypoints work now!
  • Bots follow waypoint paths.
  • The bot comes complete with my waypoint files for... c1a0, c2a4f, crossfire, datacore, stalkyard and undertow.
  • Bots shoot suck_mines, impailer arrows, enemy snark cams, monsters and enemy transformations.
  • Bots don't shoot the g-man monster or sitting scientists since they can't be killed anyway!
  • Weapons and prioritys tweaked again.
  • Jump waypoints added. (The small and big 'fart' waypoints are not implemented yet) ;-)
  • Bots can talk with the "bot_whine.txt" (still to change)
  • Bots try to crouch if it's standing on top of an enemy!
  • Bots shoot suck_mines at a certain distance (384 units) should be about the same length as the teather
  • Bots can play teamplay and don't shoot transformations that are on their team.
  • Bots use all weapons except ... tripmine, satchel, snark cam.
  • Bots have the ability if sv_cheats is 1 and "botcheats" is enabled
