Eliminator Bot Review

Bot: Eliminator Bot

Long ago in the times before I was famous and before Quake2 had been released or rather before I managed to pick up a copy I played Classic Quake as did many others. I knew very little about the Quake bot scene. I was first introduced to the Eliminator Bot. When I found out that this bot was a Reaper Bot clone I was astonished, only because of the complete differences of both skill and features between Reaper and Eliminator.

Firstly, I played this bot on (DM4 - The Bad Place) with a fraglimit of 25 and a timelimit of 20 minutes with one bot on skill 3. Let me tell you that the fraglimit came close to being hit but the timelimit just beat us.

The thing which really made a difference between the Reaper and this Reaper clone was that the bots now show up on the scoreboard just like real clients! No more of this binding a key to see what the bots score is, this adds to the bot's realism. While its only a small feature it takes a hell of a lot of work. Believe me ;)

The chasecam? Well there is one of them in every Quake mod these days so that wasn't anything special, I prefer to play in 1st Person anyway.

"Hey you ugly turd. Don't shoot me!" The bots would come out with smart-ass remarks like this one every once in a while which again adds to the realism of their client emulation but once they started annoying me I just had to cream them up against a wall using my trusty rocket launcher.

Thump, Thump, Thump! (thumpingbot was killed by Ze0) the bots still make that annoying thumping sound when they jump. This problem really needed to be adressed as that noise kind of goes around in your head after playing the bot for 20 minutes or so. Any longer than 20 minutes and it might of driven me to insanity.

While the bot doesn't get into the Frogbot's standards it is an excellent Reaper clone and a worthy bot for anyone who is either sick of the others or is new to the world of Quake.

Happy Quaking!

Score: 87%
