The Top 5 of my favourite Quake bots

So you entered a page about quake bots. In this page i'll try to express my opinion about these bots, and make a few liks to download the best ones. And, don't ask what the quake BOT is - if you don't know that, why should you enter this page? Well, allright, here is some info:

What is the quake bot?

Quake Bots are computer-controlled players. Generally, they have not bad AI (Artificial Intellect) to simulate a human player. There are two types of a quake bots: client bots and client-side bots. Client bots are the most popular between quakers, because there's no need to have a good connection to internet - you can play with bots at home. Click here to find out about other sort of bots - client-side. The most popular of these is
Stanford Stoogebot. This type of bots is usually used by lamers, since the bot is doing all of the aiming stuff for you. Also, most of the Quake servers aren't allowing such bots, so don't ever bother with that. A bot can be quite hard to defeat for a weenies - don't think that if you can beat a monster you can beat a bot controlled by the same computer. But if you are a good or even average quaker, you should have no problem defeating a bot. But since the connections to the quake servers aren't perfect for everybody, it is interesting to practise against bots at home. One thing that every quaker must remember - if you win against a bot, that doesn't mean that you can always do the same with other good human players. No way - bots are programmed - everybody can learn their startegy, and frag them
easily. And i wouldn't say that about human players. But still, the bot is a great program, go download one and take a shot yourself.

I like playing against bots for the following reasons: i haven't got good connection to quake servers, i like quake multiplayer (deathmatch) games, and the newest bots play very humalike.

O.K. here is my best quakebots top five (other bots simply sucks, and there is no need to describe them).:

1. Frogbot

The Frogbot (latest official version now is 0.12c) is simply the best quake bot i've ever played against. This bot has very humanlike movement, and it's aiming isn't as other bots - frogbot is shooting not very accurately (but that's more like human, isn't it?). Frogbot also has an option of user-defined names. That means, you can create a bot with a name you want to. You can select bot's skill level (from 0 to 200), shirt and pants color, skin. Latest version also includes new features like: QuakeWorld emulation or running a QuakeWorld server with bots. No other quake bot has such things
programmed. The only bad thing about Frogbot is that its official verson supports only DM6, DM4 and ZTNDM3 maps. But who cares? The next versions should have more maps supported. Now that the map support can be done not only by Frogbot
author, it shouldn't be the main issue. When the next official version comes out, Frogbot will (hopefully) support lifts and water. Then we'll see even more maps supported (maybe even DM2 or E1M7!)
You can find all Frogbot
links here.

2. Omicron

Omicron bot is also one of the most humanlike bots. Though it isn't as good and as hard to fight against as Frogbot, Omicron has it's own advantages: All map and Rocketarena support. I must say, Omicron is very tough opponent in rocketarena matches. But i wouldn't say that about 1-on-1 games. If Frogbot is designed mostly for 1-on-1 and teamplay games, Omicron is tougher opponent in FFA (Free for all) games. Actually, there is one more thing which i like in Omicron bot - his rocketjumping abilities. For example, he can get the red armor in dm6 much more faster than other bots. Omicron simply performs a rocketjump - and he's there. Also, the ability to 'teach' bot how to behave in different levels, is quite interesting. It's all done using .ent files. The process of making waypoints for Omicron isn't very tough, but I won't explain it all here. Why don't you visit Coolguy's page and download some .ent files so that you won't have to make it yourself.

3.CtfBot+

a very interesting bot, and nicely done. This bot is designed for CTF (capture the flag) games, and i must admit, that is tough in CTF games. (Not as good in FFA or DM). First versions of the bot were BULLSHIT - bots couldn't even carry the flag to their base even in maps with waypoints. But now, when the new (2.0) version was released,
CTFBOT+ is really better. There were over 30! different bugs fixed in this version, and the author of the bot suggests that he's going to continue bug fixing and AI programming for CTFBOT+. Latest (2.1) version of CTFBOT+ has a few new things: blue team members are shooting blue grenades. A bots, in which team are no human players, will attack and defend flags in groups, not just roaming around the level alone. So I hope that in the future we'll se a new version with advanced AI. CTFBOT+ is really worth to download if you like CTF.

4.Quakebot

QuakeBot (latest version is 1.1) is based on the Reaperbot source. It is not similar to Reaperbot, though. That's because QuakBot has lots of Reaperbot's last version bugs fixed and some new features, like: New botnames, bots with random colors, new sounds, new models. But if you look to the movement and fighting skills, QuakeBot, even with a better AI, is still not as humanlike as Frogbot or Omicron. But QuakeBot is still worth
downloading if you like to figth against tough bot.

5.Reaperbot

Well, reaper is one of the oldest quakebots, and it was popular between quakers till Omicron appeared. And now, it's completely old and outdated, because it is the unfinished bot, with lots of bugs to be fixed. When there were had no other bots, reaperbot looked great. But now, you better download some bots above. Sorry, no links for Reaperbot.

In case you want to see how other quake bots work, i have a
link, where you can find older bots.
